From Time Life Series - Spain& Portugal

Prep time: 5 minutes
Chill time: 1 hour or more

Serves 4-6

1 Bottle dry red wine (I like Sangre de Toro – strong Spanish wine)
¼ cup brandy
Chilled club soda
½ orange, cut into ¼” thick slices
½ lemon, cut into ¼” thick slices
½ apple cut in half lengthwise, cored and cut into thin wedges
¼ - ½ cup superfine sugar (dissolves better in cold liquid)

1. Place the fruit and sugar in a large pitcher and toss.

2. Add the wine and brandy and stir with a long handled spoon until well mixed.

3. Refrigerate until thoroughly chilled (if you can’t wait, add ice cubes).

4. Just before serving add club soda to taste (adding up to 24 oz). Stir again and serve.
