Seared Sesame Tuna with Wasabi Mayo

Seared Sesame Tuna with Wasabi Mayo
Adapted from Bonnie Stern’s Essentials of Home Cooking

Prep time: less than 5 minutes
Marinating time: 30 minutes
Grill time: 2-3 minutes per side
Serves 4

Ingredients:
4 tuna steaks ½“/1cm thick
2 tbsp roasted sesame oil
2 tbsp coarsely ground black pepper
2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
1 tsp kosher salt
Wasabi mayo:
Lite Mayonnaise
Wasabi paste or powder (as much or as little as you like – it’s quite potent)

Directions:
1. Pat tuna dry and rub with sesame oil.

2. In a small bowl, combine the pepper, sesame seeds and salt. Sprinkle over the tuna and pat firmly. Marinate for 30 minutes.

3. In another small bowl, prepare the wasabi mayo. Combine the mayo and wasabi and mix until smooth. Taste for seasoning – too spicy, add more mayo; not spicy enough, add more wasabi

4. Prepare the BBQ or broiler. You could also use a grill pan on the top of the stove. Key to success: hot surface (or close to top oven burner) and sear for 2-3 minutes per side. The outside should be slightly charred and the inside, rare.

Serve with Wasabi mayo, Baby Bok Choy Stir Fry and an Awesome Asian Salad .
